SERUM WORK AREA DEVELOPED AT GPS

Automation in the clinical laboratory has progressed rapidly over the past 50 years. Coupled with the advances in computing technology, modern laboratory analysers can process large numbers of tests simultaneously with a high level of precision and accuracy.

With increasing workloads and commitments to a better quality service, laboratories have moved to consolidate their testing - with fewer analytical platforms. This concept has evolved as a means of creating a more efficient and cost-effective environment for test delivery.

Gippsland Pathology Service has always invested in technology with a view to providing a safer, faster and consistent level of service to its clients. The latest initiative has been the installation of a state-of-the-art Analyser in the Biochemistry department of our Central Laboratory in Traralgon

This analyser [MODULAR <PPE>] from Roche - Hitachi is only the second of its type in Australia the other being at Royal North Shore Hospital (Sydney). The analyser will perform routine chemistries, (either individually or in panels) as well as a wide range of hormone assays, therapeutic drugs and tumour markers. It has been fully integrated with our Laboratory Information System and will be able to offer a greater level of flexibility and reliability in this area of testing.
